Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, member of the U.S. House of Representatives, who is elected by the bulk party to lead the House. The speaker presides over debate, appoints members of select and conference committees, establishes the legislative calendar, maintains order inside the Firm, and administers the adjuration of office to House members. The individual in this office is second in the line of presidential succession, following the vice president.
